and some 200 dialects, each ethoic group preserves its own
unique customs, tradition and customs. You will find all the
major religions of the world in Ethiopia. But for all this
exotic Varity, the people of Ethiopia celebrate and has a number
of festivals throughout the year, is also called ENKU - ETATASH
(KIDUS YOHANNES St. John) is celebrated on September 11 starting
from this month on wards there are many festivals that celebrate
colourfully through out the country in connection both the two
major religions, christian and islam.
Both religious and secular
festivals in Ethiopia are occasions for great rejoicing,
feasting and dancing often accompanied by colorful pageantry.
the Gregorian or European calendar dates, because of leap year,
do not always concide precisely with the Ethiopian.
The most typical festivals of Ethiopia out of the many are
- Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany): Falling on the 19th January and
is the greatest festival of the year.
- Meskel (Finding of the
true cross) on 27th of September
- Eastern: The most Solemn of festivals
- Christmass /Ethiopian christmass : is celebrated on 7th of
January. Among usuall of the country's feastival are kulubi
Gebriel, Gishen Mariam, Sheik Hussien, and Sofomar. IDD - UI -
FITR, & IDD - UL ADHA are the celebrated Islamic most important
holy festivals in the muslim community in the year.
