Day 2: Fly from Addis Ababa to Gondar and drive to Debark (100 km). From Gondar, we will travel in and off-the-road vehicle passing through mountainous areas with spectacular panoramas, approaching the national park of the Simien Mountains. The Semin Massif is one of the greatest sculptures on the planet: peaks, canyons, gorges, clefts and pointed amethyst-colored pinnacles like obelisks. Day 3: Debark – Sankaber – Gich. We will start our travel in an off-the-road vehicle to Sankaber which takes about 2 hours. During the trip, the altitude increases and the views are wide and beautiful; the vehicle passes through fields of barley which extends far beyond once view. From Sankaber we start trekking: 5/6 hours of walking, first in the midst of the fields, then through woods of arboreal heather, with giant lobelias and colonies of “gelada” baboons everywhere. Overnight stay and dinner in the Gich campsite, a pleasant field near the village.

Day 4: Gich – Chenek. We trek for 7/8 hours, uphill as far as the summit of Imet Gogo which is 3,926 m high, a plateau of stone on a sea of mountains and valleys. We further climb again to the 4,070 metres of Enatye: a long walk on the rim of precipices. In the steep, rocky slopes below may be seen the Waliya ibex, an endemic to Ethiopia. We return down to the camp in Chenek, located close to a stream, where we eat dinner and spend the night. Nights are beautifully limpid in this region; the sky is crystal clear and awash with stars.

Day 5: Chenek – Arkwasiye: We walk for 7/8 hours over fields planted with giant lobelias, a sharp climb to Bwahit (4,437 m).
